Driver Ed in a Box does not take the place of Driver Education as required by the state of Maryland. You will be required to complete a state approved driver education course. We recommend Driver Ed in a Box as a supplement to the State approved courses. It will give you the tools required to have your teen become a Safe Collision free driver while going through the state required 40 hours of supervised driving during the GDL process.

Summary of Maryland Graduated Licensing Law
(detailed chart bottom of this page) Maryland has a three stage licensing process for minors. Learner’s Permit (at least age 15 & 9 months). We recommend our Driver Ed in a Box®. Shows the parent how to teach collision-free driving habits and provides unique teaching tools (mirrors, checklists, videos, audio instruction series, etc.). Provisional License (at least 16 & 1 month) Driver’s License (at least 17 & 7 months)

Today’s teens do not just want their license; they want to be good collision-free drivers. They know the risks. Virtually all have friends who got a license and were involved in a collision in the first four weeks. Most teens have lost classmates due to fatal collisions.
Driver Ed in a Box®			Certificate of Completion!
Our product now includes both the Interactive CD-Rom Version and the Textbook Version for one low price. You may use either version to complete the course at your own pace.
*Teens want to know "why"* the things you ask them to do will work.			When you complete the full course you get a Certificate of Completion. Take this to your insurance agent. It varies state by state and by insurance company, but you may receive an insurance discount.
Using the full course your teen will learn why each step is important while learning the collision-free HABITS that make you a better driver. The full course also includes a section on Social & Consumer Issues. This includes how alcohol and drugs as well as emotions and attitude affect driving performance. Also covered are vehicle ownership (buying, leasing, insuring, and maintaining).

Parent consent required under age 18. Must pass all required tests. Provisions: Must complete driver education course. Must be accompanied by a supervising driver who is 21 years or older, and has held a license for a minimum of 3 years. The person must be seated beside the new driver at all times, with no other front seat occupants. A parent, guardian, or supervising driver must complete a practice log for the learner's permit holder, which is issued by the MVA along with every learner's permit. Learner's permits are valid for 1 year from the date they are issued. Must hold Permit minimum 4 months.	Must submit a driver education certificate. A parent, guardian or supervising driver must submit a completed and signed practice log documenting a minimum of 40 hours of supervised driving for applicants. Applicants must pass a skills test administered either in traffic or on a course. Provisional license holders under 18 are only authorized to drive without supervision between the hours of 5 am to midnight. From midnight to 5 am a supervising driver who is 21 or older, and has held a license for a minimum of 3 years must accompany them. Provisional license holders under 18 and all the passengers in the vehicle they are driving must use proper restraints.	Drivers must hold a provisional license for a minimum of 18 months.
